Norah’s Knits: TV Knitting

Lately, the time I most want to knit is when I am watching TV, and that means I’ll want to work on something pretty easy. I find the same thing to be true when I knit in the car. I can’t really look down too often, so I need simple knitting. Don’t worry, I don’t knit while I’m driving, only when I’m the passenger!

The ultimate easy knitting pieces are “knit in the round cowls” in easy stitches:

Nonary has no shaping and all stockinette stitch while Cermak has some occasional shaping. Seyfert’s lightly textured stitch is also doable. If you space out and do a few more rows than called for between the fancy bits no one will be the wiser.

In place of a TV, my husband and I have a little LED projector and a small pulldown screen – you know, like the kind we used to have in our elementary school class rooms. With movie knitting, when we watch something together, I am knitting in the dark! Even with a headlamp, my favorite knitting tool, garter stitch or stockinette seem best.

For a darkened room, I like a yarn that I can really feel, like remix or ultra alpaca. Even though Larry and Avocet B are sweaters, there isn’t much shaping involved and there are both in my favorite easy knitting stitches – garter and stst!

Knitting in the dark can be a challenge, but it makes it all the more fun when you turn on the light and see your progress in all its  glory.

  1. It’s such a cute book. I have dear friends with children who would love to have this book. I would give it to one of my friends as I don’t have any young ones in my life right now.
