A lightweight cardigan to throw over my summer dresses – this is the kind of garment I will make over and over, knowing it will become a staple and get lots of wear!
The Sapphire cardigan from Berroco’s spring/summer 2022 collection was designed in Vivo, one of our brand-new spring yarns, with a fun and colorful tropical vacation vibe. Vivo is a slightly textured cotton yarn with a self-striping pattern that makes it fun to knit with. But for my own cardigan I wanted to use a solid color. Well, here’s a fun thing about Berroco’s spring yarns: many of them are similar in weight, which means you can mix and match many of the patterns and yarns! (Don’t forget to swatch, though!) I chose a tried-and-true favorite, Remix Light, in color 6993 Pepper. This is a 100% recycled yarn with a generous yardage and great tweedy colors.
Sapphire’s bat-wing shaped sleeves make for a very easy-to-fit and forgiving upper body shape. Use the waist measurement as a guide when selecting a size. I am a 40″ bust, 35″ waist, and made the 40 1/2″. I made no modifications other than the yarn substitution. The cardigan is worked in pieces and seamed. It was a pretty quick knit, and I can’t wait for those warmer days to come so I can start wearing it!
