Mandi Yelland knits and designs primarily for newborn photographers, which means she almost always gets to see her items in use (and on adorable babies!). That includes her Darling Little Romper, a classic onesie knit in Andean Mist.
The romper comes in three sizes (0-3 months, 3-6 and 6-12). It is worked entirely in stockinette stitch, with instructions available for both flat and seamless construction. Mandi is also planning to release a pattern for the matching bonnet.
How long have you been knitting/crocheting?
I have been knitting for about 12 years. For the first 3 years, everything I made was a square or rectangle, and always in garter stitch, as I couldn’t purl to save my life!
Is there any story behind the name of this pattern?
No rhyme or reason to the name. I actually had trouble thinking of something to call it and settled on Darling Little Romper, using “little” in the name because it is in the name of my shop, Little Knit Knacks.
How did you decide on the yarn?
I was looking for an angora yarn when I came across Andean Mist. I bought 4 balls and fell in love! I have about 30 balls in various colors in my stash now! I like the halo that Andean Mist has and I’m so glad I found it and decided to use it. It’s my favorite yarn to use!
What’s your favorite project you’ve ever made?
My favorite project I ever made was a Christening gown for my niece.
If you could knit/crochet something for anyone in the world it would be…?
I would love to knit something for one of the characters on Once Upon a Time. It’s my favorite show to watch with my 3 daughters. I’ve seen knit blankets, hats, shawls, etc. on the show and would like to someday make something to be used during an episode.
What’s your favorite thing about knitting?
My favorite thing about knitting has to be the reactions of others when they receive their item.
