New Fall ’23 Yarns from Berroco

We’re thrilled that our new Fall/Winter 23 Design Collection is out for all to see!

This season, we’re introducing three brand new yarns, all quite different from one another, and each offering a unique crafting experience. We are sure you will be as excited about them as we are!

Mistico

This yarn is dreamy! With its romantic halo and fun color flecks, Mistico is a fun yarn to work with. The finished fabric is sophisticated in a plain stitch pattern, with just a bit of visual interest. It also is great for lace or crochet openwork for a dramatic feminine vibe.

Mistico is made with a cotton blend core that seems to illuminate little flecks of color; the outer brushed alpaca creates a soft halo. The construction makes it a very lightweight yarn, with an impressive 191 yards in each 50 g ball.

While listed as a worsted weight yarn, Mistico works well in a large range of gauges, due to the lightweight, brushed construction. On a larger needle, the alpaca fiber fills in the fabric for a beautiful lightweight effect, perfect for shawls and garments. Use a smaller needle for a more structured yet still lightweight fabric. We recommend making some swatches to find a gauge you like, and of course to make sure you get the correct gauge for your pattern!

Talara

Soft and fluffy, Talara is a mid-weight chain-plied yarn is made from 100% Baby Llama! It is light, and springy and may or may not have earned itself the unofficial nickname “baby kittens” by the Design Team.

This mid-weight yarn works up quickly and lends itself perfectly for your elevated staple garments and accessories with next to skin softness.

The texture of the yarn blurs the stitches of stockinette into a smooth fabric, that is very forgiving to uneven stitches, but we also love this yarn in a delicate lace stitch.

For knitting, we like Talara at a gauge of around 18 stitches per 4″, depending on the project. Talara has a lovely bounce to it, and that makes it especially important to swatch for gauge. The knitters who made our collection samples reported using anywhere from a size 7—11 US, so take the time to make sure you are using the right needle size. As a reward, that same bounce makes this a yarn that is extra comfortable to knit or crochet with.

Carousel

Meet Carousel, our statement yarn this season! This multi-color yarn comes in fun, saturated colors. A blend of wool and acrylic, this sport weight yarn is in a “torch” ball with yardage that goes on and on. Truly a yarn that celebrates maximalism!

Carousel features color flowing all through the plies – this yarn does the work for you! It works up beautifully in both knit and crocheted fabric, and the color-effect makes for fun crafting, especially in projects that play with direction. Try using Carousel in large crochet motifs, or in your next entrelac knitting project.

Carousel stands well on its own, like in the Tyanna cowl, which only uses 1 ball, but we also love pairing it with our lace mohair yarn Aerial, like in the stunning triangle motif crochet shawl Alegria.

Spree Solids

Our year-round favorite wool/cotton blend Spree is now available in solid colors! Try mixing the prints and solids in stripes or stranded colorwork.

Spree is a favorite all-season yarn, and if you haven’t tried it already, with all the new color options there is even more reason to do so now!

Fika Space-dyed

And finally, our beautifully hand-dyed merino Fika in new trendy space-dyed colors! Use it on its own, or pair it with Aerial for extra warmth and softness.
