Designer Spotlight: My Friend Virginia by Rose Williams

Rose Williams has been knitting and crocheting for most of her life, but this year her projects have added meaning. She set a personal challenge to design patterns in honor of friends – picking one friend for each letter of the alphabet.

My Friend Virginia is a lightweight mini-poncho named in honor of a fellow knitter whom Rose describes as “sweet and generous.” The poncho, which uses only two balls of Berroco Remix, is worked in the round from the top-down, following an 11-row pattern that is repeated three times on increasingly larger needles. It includes rows of eyelets bordered by sections of seed stitch and stockinette stitch. The pattern is available for free on Ravelry.

Any interesting stories about your design?

I was going to knit another of my patterns, My Friend Faith, and just decided to do something a little different. By the time I ran out of yarn, I had a completely different design.

How did you decide on the yarn?

I had used this yarn before when I made My Friend Diane. I love it because it was great to work with and was not very heavy. I live in Texas so this yarn is perfect for our mild winters.

If you could knit/crochet something for anyone in the world it would be…?

I would love to make a pair of colorful socks for President Bush Sr. He loves unique socks.

What’s your favorite thing about knitting/crochet?

It is very relaxing… and you meet the nicest people.

Do you have a cool design you want to share? Or did you recently finish a project with Berroco yarn? You can email Ashley: apalumbo@berroco.com or post it to the Berroco Lovers forum in Ravelry.
