Creative is the first word that came to my mind when browsing through patterns in TheMailoDesign’s shop on Ravelry. Interestingly enough, the woman behind these designs never considered herself an artsy person. At least not until her friends and family urged her to share her unique creations with the world.
TheMailoDesign’s Asymmetrical Shrug is a fun crochet pattern released earlier this spring. Part sweater and part poncho, the top features one kimono sleeve and a diagonal hem that spans from just above the hip to just below the opposite shoulder. The sample was crocheted with two strands of Berroco Comfort Chunky held together and it worked up in just a few hours.

When did you start designing?
My shop began after I had my first child and realized I had free time to explore my own creativity. I started from dog clothes and after a while, began crocheting and knitting items for friends and family.
How would you describe this design?
The Asymmetrical Shrug is one of my favorites because it looks very elegant and it is very easy to make. Most of my items are very easy to create and I am excited that even beginners can utilize my patterns.
Any interesting stories about your design process?
The beauty of the world around me inspires my patterns. I live near the sea, and the serenity and peace of being near water truly is reflected in my work.
