Amy’s Thread: Spring Cardis

Easy breezy boxy cardigans are everywhere this spring- but they’re anything but new.

The basic kimono cardigan is really a series of different size rectangles sewn together. The shape was borrowed from woven garments where the size was originally dictated by the width of the weaver’s loom. A beautiful handwoven cloth is a precious thing, so there is minimal cutting into the fabric and no shaping (shaping= wasted fabric).

As old as this style is, it feels really fresh this season. Bonus for us knitters, this can be the easiest sweater to knit suitable for a beginner or a blank canvas for a designer to have fun with.
