When I am home on a snowy day there is nothing I want to do more than curl up with a bowl of popcorn, some tea and yarn. Yesterday, I had the popcorn and the tea, but I did not have enough yarn to cast on for a new project!
Not sure what to do, I gathered all the little bundles of scraps I had and came up with a nice pile of materials. I’ve been playing around with idea of finger puppets for some time now, so I thought I would give it a try.
I grabbed some needles and my yarn…and one movie later, I had 3 sheep!
Here’s how I made them.
Sheep Finger Puppets
Size 7 double pointed needles
Small crochet hook
Blackstone Tweed color #2602, #2601
Ultra Alpaca Light color # 4201
Ultra Alpaca Fine color # 1245
Andean Mist color #6301, #6320
Holding one strand of Blackstone Tweed (or Ultra Alpaca) with one strand of Andean Mist, cast on 10 stitches and join to knit in the round.
Knit 13 rounds.
Decrease Rnd… K2tog, k1, k2tog twice, k1, k2tog.
Break yarn and thread through remaining stitches to close the puppet.
Cast on three stitches in a contrasting color of Blackstone Tweed or Ultra Alpaca. Knit three rows in stockinette. Bind off. Sew little face onto Body.
Ears: Using small crochet hook and yarn used for face chain 4. Slip stitch into 2nd chain from hook, slip stitch into remaining chain and fasten off.
Repeat for second ear.
Using yarn used for face insert crochet hook into body and chain 6. Slip stitch into 2nd chain from hook, slip stitch into remaining chains and fasten off. Repeat for remaining legs.
Using yarn for body, insert crochet hook into body and chain 4. Slip stitch into 2nd chain from hook, slip stitch into remaining chain and fasten off.
Weave in ends.
And that’s all there is too it! Your sheep could be any color and any material you’d like. I hope you enjoy them!
