Christmas is less than two months away…have you started knitting?
Our 2014 Holiday Gift Knit-Along is the perfect opportunity to give and receive! There are 6 projects to choose from for this KAL & a good incentive (see below) to finish on time:
- Holman Hunt from booklet #347 Berroco Andean Mist
- Minutia ‘14 free pattern available in KnitBits (all four count as one project)
- Corker from booklet #346 Berroco Inca Tweed
- Orpheus from booklet #349 Berroco Ultra Alpaca Chunky
- Barrison knit & crochet versions
- Grace (modeled by the lovely Alison Green)
So far more than 1oo people have joined. Are you one of them?
For anyone planning to knit Grace, I wanted to share some notes on yarn alternatives. These mittens knit so quickly (I think the original pair took me a single evening), I may have to make pair in every color. It’s always nice to have a spare!
The recommended yarn, Mojo, comes in 6 thick-and-thin variegated shades, the color shifts come in long repeats (you can see it a little more clearly in the cowl, Michelle or the scarf, Cass). My favorite shades are “Enchantment” and “Spell.” This yarn is considered super bulky, with a gauge of 2 stitches to the inch, but we decided to knit it a little more tightly for these mittens (2.75 stitches/inch).
Alternative Yarns:
Borealis/Borealis Tweed – This yarn has a slightly smaller gauge than Mojo (3 stitches = 1 inch). If you’re not afraid of some pattern modification these will still be quick to knit but you’ll need to work the increase row on the mitten top 2-3 times more and add another 2-to-4 stitches to the thumbs.
For my mittens, I’m thinking about Peruvia Quick.
The 2014 Holiday Gift Knit-Along runs now through December 24th, so there’s plenty of time to join. For the next two months, we’ll be rewarding you for knitting one (or more) of the six projects featured in our KAL. For each project you finish & post before the December 24th deadline, we’ll send you a coupon code for a free single pattern PDF download from our collection. Head on over to the Berroco Lovers Ravelry group and become a member and join our KAL.
Happy Knitting!
