The Squam Spring Retreat in Holderness, New Hampshire was this last weekend. Berroco was on board with a sponsorship so it only made sense to visit for the Ravelry Revelry and Squam Art Fair.
Squan·na·be [sk-won-nuh-bee] noun, plural Squan·na·bes. Informal.
One who aspires, or envies another’s attendance at a Squam retreat.
Everyone I know who has attended comes away from the retreat starry-eyed and blissed (in the best way) and I’ve always wanted to see for myself.
Luckily, the Art Fair and Ravelry party are free and open to the public on Saturday night. The market place has a varied selection of exceptionally beautiful things – pottery, books, jewelry, beautiful hand sewn goods and all things related to knitting.
It was every bit as charming as promised but the best part – and the reason I was there – was the truly amazing people. This was an opportunity to give and receive hugs from friends I rarely see, old and new and from the around the world…
One of these people is Thea Colman of Baby Cocktails and the other is Karen Templar of the Fringe Association…
My trip was supposed to be all about fun, but a designer is always working. Sometimes in the wee hours, great things happen. Here, the brilliant Bristol Ivy is sketching… I can’t wait to talk more about that!
While my Squam experience was only a few short hours, I left feeling rejuvenated and inspired. I had a taste of the joy attendees experience and I am sure that, one way or another, I’ll be back for more.
Learn more about this event, by visiting the Squam Art Retreats website. There are multiple events throughout the year, online workshops and the website is lovely, too.
