Adriana Aguirre has been crocheting and knitting for years, but she only recently started designing. She published her first three amigurumi crochet patterns this year, all inspired by animals she loves.
While all of Adriana’s amigurumi animals are cute, Emilia the Elephant seems to be the favorite so far! Adriana used our Vintage yarn to crochet the adorable toy. “I have a lot of it in my stash already, so when I was ready to make the final sample for my pattern this purple jumped at me. It was perfect for the project.”

Anything interesting happened during your design process?
I had a plan of how I wanted the elephant to look, but as I started crocheting, I kept changing my mind. The ears and the trunk look completely different than what I planned, but way better I think!
What’s your favorite project you’ve ever made?
I would have to go with my first knitted shawl. It’s the Haruni Shawl by Emily Ross. It was my first real attempt at working with lace, fingering weight yarn and blocking, and I really loved how it turned out.
If you could knit something for anyone in the world it would be?
I really like giving some of the items I make to charity. I only started doing it this year, but it feels good to know you are giving it to someone who really needs it.
What’s your favorite thing about knitting?
My favorite thing about knitting – really crafts in general – is the feeling of accomplishment; knowing I actually made that myself.
