A few weeks ago the “fans of norah gaughan” group on Ravelry reached 2000 members, which I declared cause for celebration. I asked the members for celebratory suggestions. Someone suggested a KAL and someone else requested a new pattern just for the group. So, I decided to make a new pattern for the occasion and the knit along has begun. I’ll be posting all of the information here – you don’t even have to belong to Ravelry. Why wouldn’t you want to though? It’s so much fun to see what other knitters are doing, and of course, if you need help, you have a built in and experienced support group.
NOTE: THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE DESIGNER INSTRUCTIONS – THERE MAY BE MISTAKES! I’ll correct mistakes as they are brought to my attention. I’m not knitting this one, the members of the Ravelry group are my test knitters (or is it guinea pigs) 🙂
First, the schematic, in 7 sizes:
A fun way to test your gauge is to knit the wedge scarf, free pattern on the Berroco web site.
Now, to get started:

40 sts = a generous 7” in garter st
size 5 needle 3.75mm
ST ST GAUGE:
5.75 sts = 1″
23 sts & 32 rows = 4″ (10 cm)
garter st 23 sts = 4”
Wegette cardigan“skirt”
Cast on 68(70-70-72-74-74-76)sts
Wedge with garter:
Knit 12 rows. Purl one row.
Short row lace wedge (starts on a RS):

repeat rows 1 &2 4 times more (10 rows total)

Knit 12 rows.
Stockinette st Separator: Work 1.75(2-2.25-2.5-2.75-3-3.25)“ in stst (starts and ends with a RS row).
Work wedge with garter and separator 4 times more, then work wedge once more, Binding off on last row of garter st. (last knit row).
Oh yay! Congratulations on your group – it’s wonderful, how helpful you are in there! 🙂
The pattern is so pretty – what a fun project, and how great to get to see it develop!
Hmmm…if I can finish all my work tomorrow…and Assemblage on the Cape this weekend…I just might have to cast on for this on Monday!
HA! Might need a few more of those caffeinated Popsicles.
How completely tempting——– and lovely!

Very nice project. I’m a beginner-intermediate knitter but it looks not too complicated. Thanks for the scarf link to try it out on.
