One of our all-time best-selling patterns, Kirby, is a sweet baby cardigan with leaf eyelet details on the yoke. Designed by Åsa Buchta, the pattern was so popular, she designed an adult version, Elmgrove, and a kids version, Wynn.
It’s truly a perfect cardigan which is why we feel everyone should knit one!
Our New England Rep, Andra, has made fifteen Kirbys! She loves showing off all the various yarns we carry with this pattern. Due to it’s small size, it’s a perfect project to test out a new yarn.
(Yarns used top left to bottom right: Fika, Ultra Wool DK, Remix Light, Vintage Baby Handpaint, Lang Linello, Lang Karma, Lang Paradise, West Yorkshire Spinners Bo Peep, Vintage Baby, Summer Sesame, Isola, Vintage Baby Handpaint, Medina, Modern Cotton DK and Vintage DK.)
Since it can be made in so many yarns, you can easily choose the perfect fiber content for your little one. Plus, it looks great when made with variegated and self-striping yarns, too!
Kirby makes an excellent gift because it’s quick to make, unisex and adorable! Whether you want to make a light cardigan for chilly spring days, or a warm wool sweater for winter, this pattern is suitable for yarns in any season.
Even if you are a new knitter, Kirby is a great first project. You’ll learn how to increase, decrease and do a simple stitch pattern all while making a charming baby sweater.
We love Kirby, and we can’t wait to see more people make this pattern!
Have you made a Kirby? Post your finished cardigan on Instagram or Facebook and tag #berroco so we can see your sweet sweater.
