Unofficial Summer Remix Knit-Along

The Design Team has just wrapped up (some might still be wrapping up) the Berroco Spring KAL, the Odora Shawl but we’ve already started an unofficial office KAL for the pattern Astilbe from the booklet #374. It all started with Remix.

Donna Yacino, the voice of reason behind the pattern support email here at Berroco and a designer with the Berroco Design Team, is a huge fan of Berroco Remix®. We all love Remix, but nobody can possibly love it as much as Donna does, which partially prompted Amy P. to write this post here and this post on the Berroco Design Instagram. Somehow, one thing led to another and the next thing you know we’ve all cast-on an Astilbe in Remix. I designed Astilbe for Booklet #374 Picnic—there are few things I love more than moss stitch and cables.

Alison Green is flying ahead of the rest of us (not that we’re racing). She has finished the back and is nearly throughout the left front. She is working the pattern as written—she’s using shade #3949 ‘Nightfall’ which is to my eye the perfect shade of Navy blue for a sweater.

Amy P.will also make her Astilbe in pieces and seam, and she’s using shade #3984 ‘Ocean’. Amy is working on the left front. You can see she has changed the chart just a tiny bit and added an extra cable repeat that replaces some of the stitches in the moss stitch side panel. I think this is a lovely modification but it works for only some sizes and not all which is why we didn’t include it in the pattern.

Donna is knitting her cardigan nearly as fast as Alison but she’s working the body in one piece without seams. Donna chose the new shade #3915 “Olive” and has lined the pockets on hers with a fun pop of “Clementine,” a now discontinued shade. I love how her stitch holder color coordinates too.

For mine, I’ve chosen #3967 “Bittersweet” a deep dark chocolate brown that has been a perennial favorite since the Remix line launched in 2010. I’m planning a number modifications to my cardi, starting with knitting it semi-seamless. I’ll go into detail about that in next week’s blog post.

Brenda York is the Tech Editor and a designer here. She rarely knits sweaters for her self (she prefers socks and shawls as projects) but even she’s been tempted. Brenda brought home remix in shade #3985 “Merlot” but has yet to cast-on.

Have you knit with Remix? Its a great yarn for summer knitting, especially if you’re a sweater knitter like most of us are in the design office. The yarn is soft and springy like wool but cool and dry making it comfortable to work with on even the hottest days. Want to play along with us? Find Remix at your LYS and cast on the project of your choice. If you use social media be sure to share your pictures with us, using #Berroco or #BerrocoRemix because we love to see what you’re making!

  1. I love Remix. It’s the most comfortable yarn to wear when the weather is not freezing, but you still want a bit of warmth. I’ve knitted the Roosevelt cardigan with it; this yarn and this pattern go together like strawberry and rhubarb in a pie!

  2. I think I’m going to participate by knitting Parsley for my daughter. She choose Eggplant for the colourway.

  3. I love Remix! I knit the Guernsey Wrap by Jared Flood in the teal and love it. I want to knit a poncho in Remix. Any suggestions from your knitters??
