Emily Explains: A Color Option for Mira

Yesterday Berroco released a new free pattern, Mira, a color work hat designed in Berroco Abode by Amy Christoffers, our fabulous design director. Mira is a beautiful hat that I was so excited to swatch for because knitting with Abode is simply scrumptious. It is a 100% merino wool, loosely spun, single ply yarn that goes from thick to thin. The colors are painted on the white wool yarn so when knitted, the color work looks a bit like a water color painting.

To get excited about swatching, I went through some old sketchbooks. I was drawn to some sketches and tear sheets that I had pulled for an Abode color story almost 2 years ago.IMG_4769

I decided to give colors 8842 Old Velvet, 8806 Inkwell, 8804 Glade, and 8838 Burlap a try.

I like it … but it’s not quite right. Searching through the other colors, I loved what I saw when I held up color 8840 Apricot over the pink in my swatch. So I gave it another go, swapping the raspberry Old Velvet color for Apricot.

I like it so much better! The swatch above was made with colors 8840 Apricot, 8806 Inkwell, 8804 Glade, and 8838 Burlap. I love these colors for myself but there are many more to choose from.

What colors will you knit your Mira with?

Happy Making!
