Norah’s Knits: Knitting for Men

I’m a very lucky woman. My husband wears sweaters. In fact he loves sweaters so much he doesn’t even wear a coat. Instead he’ll pile on two sweaters and walk out the door. John’s also an old fashion New Englander when it comes to understanding the virtues of wool – warmth being paramount.

If that weren’t reason enough to love him, his mother owned a yarn shop back in the day and he’s been wearing hand knits all his life (and appreciating it). He even knows how to knit and could, if he weren’t more interested in building things with wood (our house, the sauna, our chicken coop). On the flip side, I know how to wood carve and could, but I’d rather be knitting.

To make a long story short, it’s fun to knit for my husband because he’ll appreciate the work that went into it, wear the sweater to death and look good doing it. It’s been a few years since I came out with a men’s book, so we decided it was about time for a new men’s collection. The entire Berroco Design team was involved this time. We used classic yarns like Berroco Ultra Alpaca and Berroco Vintage and whipped up some modern classics. My favorite of the lot is Alber, which we came to refer to as our “Dude” cardigan.

Do the men in in your life like to wear hand knit sweaters, or are you a man who knits?

  1. And he looks quite handsome wearing them, if he does say so himself (which he will, if you give him a chance!)

  2. My husband says he will wear any sweater I knit for him, which I’ve yet to do. Love these designs! Artin and Retta are my favorite!

  3. The patterns are great, but I just have to say that I “ship” Norah/John — you two are cute!
