Ask Amanda: How do I fix a dropped stitch?

You know, learning to fix dropped stitches is kind of like learning to ride a bike. At first everything seems wobbly and out of control, but once you start to get the hang of it, it begins to feel like second nature – and before long, you’ll wonder why it seemed so intimidating in the first place.

For a quick overview, I’ve done a video demonstration on the basics of fixing a dropped stitch both from the knit side and the purl side:

Once you’ve mastered the basics, you’ll be able to apply this skill to lots of situations in your knitting. It will boost your confidence and improve the quality of your knitting!

  1. Great video, and you are so right when you say you’ll soon wonder why it seemed intimidating. It’s quite easy once you’ve done it a couple of times, and it makes such a difference in knitting to be able to do this. To think that I used to rip out entire rows just because of a dropped stitch just because I didn’t know how to do this … it’s so nice to not have to do that any more!

  2. Thanks so much for making these instructions so very clear and easy to follow along. What a tremendous help it will be for me when knitting.
