Norah’s Knits: Last Minute Gifts

I know, I know, this is really late to be talking about making Christmas presents. Many of you started thinking about Christmas way back in August, or maybe as far back as January, but others of us are just getting to it now. Even if you’ve been über organized, maybe you still need one or two last minute gifts.

Amanda made some great suggestions for quick gifts a few weeks ago in Knitbits.  For those of you willing to take on slightly bigger projects I’ve got a few more suggestions:

Wraps make great gifts because they don’t have to fit your recipient and can often be worn several ways. Candlewood, the great little wrap striped wrap, was designed for a cotton tape yarn.

If you’d prefer to make a cold weather version, Berroco Lodge would make a fantastic substitution as would Vintage Chunky.

The warm and cozy mohair lace wrap on the right has a really simple 4 row openwork pattern and also looks great worn as a scarf. Cirrus really is THE PERFECT yarn for Denslow, so I can’t even think of making any substitutions.

Based on a fun classic granny square, The next scarf / shawl, Sashay, is the perfect crocheted gift. It  works up quickly and shows off the gorgeous colors in Lodge.

Bags and jewelry also make great gifts. The Brea bag is one of my most popular patterns ever.  It was originally made in, my favorite yarn, Ultra Alpaca (held double stranded), but a summer yarn like Weekend, or a washable yarn like Vintage would both work well.

I have a soft spot for this next pattern, Vitro. I love rocks and am totally enamored by jewelry made from found rocks or those pretty raw gems from your collection. Captiva, Elements or Seduce are all great yarn choices for these extra quick crocheted gifts.

  1. I’m almost done with the Sashay and it’s only taken me a few days. Would make a wonderful gift if I wasn’t keeping it for myself. 🙂
