Would you knit the same sweater twice?
When I made the first Elmgrove sample, I made sure to knit it in a favorite color (blue) of a favorite yarn (Lanas), and it has been one of my most used sweaters for the past couple of winters. Lately I started thinking about making another one.

The Elmgrove cardigan is the grown-up version version of the baby sweater Kirby.
We have talked about repeat makes here on the blog before (Hi Andra!). While some people may find it boring, I like the comfort of knowing what to expect from the project. But I also like to change things up a little.
The Elmgrove pattern was written for Berroco Lanas, a perfect worsted weight, non-superwash wool with lots of color options. For my second one, I decided to go with one strand each of Lanas Light, the lighter weight, 2-ply version, and Aerial, a silk/mohair laceweight yarn. The whole Berroco office is pretty much obsessed with combining these two yarns, and for good reason: The resulting fabric is light, soft and warm, with the loveliest fuzzy halo. The strand of Aerial even helps prevent pilling! I used Lanas Light in color #78102 Steel Cut Oats, and Aerial in #3406 Silver and the two combined beautifully into the softest light gray / almost greige shade.

Here are my mods for this sweater: For variety, I shortened the body a bit. Though I am tallish, I wear mostly dresses, and shorter sweaters work well for me. I also opted for straight sleeves with gathered cuffs, instead of the original tapered sleeves. I love the look of a gathered cuff, but there is also another reason I like this shape of sleeve: There are no decreases to keep track of, so I can just keep knitting until the sleeve is long enough without having to count rows. Then I just make all my decreases on one round before knitting the cuff.

Now for the buttons: The acrylic confetti buttons are from Katrinkles. I love how the colorful sparkle contrasts with this otherwise neutral cardigan. These exact buttons were a special edition and are no longer available, but keep an eye out, Katrinkles often come up with fun new things!
Any other repeat makers out there?

Hello,
Is the Elmgroove sweater top down or in the round knitted bottom up.
That is always great information to know in advance.
For us knitted flat and pieced knitters. I don’t believe all sweaters knitted in the round look attractive on all body types.
Thank you
I am definitely someone who would knit a sweater more than once. I have admired the Kirby and just might have to add the grown up version to my catalog. It looks fantastic with the pop of color in the buttons.
Yes, yes, yes! I am on my 3rd pair of socks from the same pattern right now! There’s no room for disappointment in doing the same pattern more than once, and there are usually so many colour options. I love that! Best, Angela, Red Island Knits, PEI
I love the Kirby but my granddaughters are 3 and (almost) 8 – I’m trying to figure out how to scale up – but maybe I can scale down from The Elmgrove.
