IN HOUSE KNIT DESIGNER

Berroco Inc. is a wholesaler of hand knitting yarns to retail stores across the US and Canada www.berroco.com . The company has a national reputation for quality yarns and provides high customer service to its retailer base. Located in a newly renovated commercial office in North Smithfield RI, Berroco is accessible from Worcester, Providence or Boston. This full time position on site, in our design office, offers numerous benefits within a small business creative work environment.

Job Purpose – Design hand knit and crocheted sweaters and accessories for women, children and men. Work as part of a team to produce printed instruction booklets and web content for the purpose of selling yarn.

Duties include

• Create knit designs
• Sketch designs
• Swatch and spec knitted items
• Write designer draft of patterns for sample knitters
• Research fashion trends, in stores and online
• Write weekly newsletter
• Contribute to social media campaigns
• Update web sites like Ravelry and Pinterest
• Record how to videos
• Prepare sales materials
• Write web site copy
• Organize photo shoots
• Travel for trade shows

Skills and qualifications

• Hand knit design experience
• Experienced as hand knitter
• Some crochet knowledge
• Good sketching skills
• Experience drawing of schematics
• Knowledge of sizes and planning for multiple sizes
• Great organizational skills
• Facility with social media
• Proficiency with Apple computers & PC’s
• Familiarity with drawing programs, like EasyDraw and Illustrator

Additional experience and skills are a plus

Education – College degree preferred
