This blog is intended to be a glimpse into the inner workings of the design studio at Berroco. Although it will be written mostly by Norah Gaughan, our design director, all of the characters involved will make appearances. Our work is fun, it’s hard, it’s frustrating and sometimes crazy. Learn a little about what makes us tick. Get the inside scoop.

Dear Norah:
i just finished your basalt tank from Knitting Nature. it is BRILLIANT. The fit is perfect and minimal seams to sew! I did it in an olive green Noro yarn of 50% silk 50% cotton called Lily. I am going to Ireland to visit the Giant’s Causeway in Sept and that was part of the inspiration to knit this piece. I just wanted to let you know that I think you are THE most inspired and creative knitting designer alive today, bar none!
I am a physician and your love of science and nature has elevated knitting to a new art form/level for me. Thanks again and keep up the great work,
Sincerely,

Dear Norah, I’m also a great fan of yours, and would very much like to get the volume 2 & 3, of your booklets, but I live in Denmark and don’t know how. I’m desperate at the moment, as you might sence.
I also think you are THE most intellegent knitting designer, if that is a valid expression, I enyou your Knitting Nature, that I amazingly found at the local Library.!! Lot of Love Anne Vibeke

Hi…I enjoy getting your free patterns…keep them coming! I live in Maine, U.S.A. The summer has been good…but oh those winters! Need things to do.
I knitted some scrafs for a Christmas project. But now I’m working on crocheted afghans for babies, I donate them to the hospitals. I also knit some afghans, too. A friend, Barb and I started a group to help out babies. We are called: CoolestPreemieandNewbornBabiesGroup@Yahoo.com Love to have you look in on us.
I get your site and love it…it is great to see a site like yours. I’ve even got some of my granddaughters making afghans! Keep up the great work, God Bless, Margie

Dear Norah, I am an Italian knitter and my name is Aurelia.
I love your wonderful patterns. Since I work as pattern translator with the owner’s website Unfilodi.com, who sells wool, many people, who love them too, asked me to translate your patterns into Italian language.
We would like to buy your patterns or booklets and I’d translate them.
Here now, I ask you how we can come to an agreement for realizing that.
Excuse me for the request and for my English.
Waiting your answer I send you my compliments and greetings.
Thank you very much
Aurelia

I am knitting the Pasandra sweater from the free pattern and having a wonderful time. I was reading ahead in the directions to the construction and it says to make welted seams. Does anyone know how to do this? I can’t seem to find any info regarding this technique.

I saw a sleeveless cardi that was apparently printed in a Women’s World Magazine some time ago. Here is the site on Ravelry that shows it.

Can you tell me where I can find the pattern? I would love to make one.
Thank you.

I appreciated the information on blocking. I think I will try the scarf in order to try blocking a lace project. I use a piece of builder’s foam as my blocking board. It is large enough to do two fronts at a time so I can keep the pieces the same size. It is light weight and I store it against the garage wall when not in use.
