Emily Explains: Double Yarn Overs

Screen Shot 2013-11-04 at 4.23.15 PM

I always have a hard time deciding what styles to knit and wear. Right now I think my favorite style is lace, even as the weather is taking a turn for the cold.  I especially like how it looks with layered fabrics, allowing different colors to show through. I will forever be inspired by the draping lace and layering in Missoni’s  Fall/Winter 2009 collection.

Norah and Amanda have designed some gorgeous knitted lace for layering too. Sturgeon and Knickknack are both knit in Ultra Alpaca Light, which is super soft, warm, and has amazing drape. Tracery and Bromley are both knit in spring yarns, Fuji and Lago.  However, if you  live up  north like me, you could substitute wintry yarns with a similar gauge and drape, to work with instead !

All of the pieces shown above use double yarn overs in the pattern stitch.

Not sure how to knit this?

Grab some yarn and your needles and give it a try with me…

I hope that this video helps you along in your future projects.

Happy Knitting!
