Knitter’s Spotlight: Football Helmet by Breanna Brummer
For many people, Labor Day weekend is the unofficial start of fall. The kids go back to school, the air feels a bit cooler and football season kicks off.
Honestly, football isn’t my thing…but I seem to be among the minority. And even I can’t deny the cuteness of Breanna Brummer’s Football Helmet. What a fun way keep your smallest sports fan warm at those late night games!
Breanna came up with this cute crochet design three years ago as she was starting her own business selling knit & crochet items for babies. It was a huge hit with customers! Her pattern, which uses Berroco Comfort, is now available in sizes newborn-4T on Ravelry.
How did you come up with this design?
It was nearly football season and I wanted something fun, different, trendy – something the customer wanted for practical use and something I wanted to make. I searched Etsy and Ravelry and didn’t see anything quite like this clean design.
How did you decided on Berroco Comfort yarn?
My sister and I are the pickiest yarn people. It has to feel AMAZING. It needs to be something that will wear well and work for toys, hats, clothes, scarves, mittens, pillows, blankets, cocoons – anything. My sister is the queen researcher, so she found Berroco Comfort and Vintage and we were both sold instantly! There is no other yarn on the market like Berroco. We love it and my customers love it. I’m always looking and feeling new yarns any chance I get – snooping to see what kind of yarn my competition is using – nothing matches Comfort. I love having that one-up on my competitors!
What’s your favorite project that you’ve made?
I’m always going to be partial to my line of cocoons. They were my initial vision for my business. Most of my customers use them for photo props and daily use. My favorite thing is when they order one and have to have another as back up! And then they have to have the next size.
