Creating things with yarn is a great way to express your creativity, and it’s also good for your mental and physical wellbeing. A crochet blogger and freelance writer, Kathryn Vercillo is passionate about spreading that message with her new book, Crochet Saved My Life.

After suffering for years with depression, she found that crochet played a crucial role in helping her work through the healing process. As she starting sharing her story with the crafting community, she discovered that many others have also found crochet to be an important and valuable part of life when dealing with mental and physical illnesses. Hearing about their experiences inspired her, and she went on to interview women from all walks of life. Combining their stories with her own biography and research, Kathryn’s book provides an amazing look at the ways crochet can help heal.

Kathryn is already working on two more crochet-related books, so expect more inspiring work from her in the future!

When we put our dog of 15 years down, I just got into a slump, was home with her for 1 year and she was by my side constantly…I got back into crocheting…made up 30 hats with scarfs to match to donate to a homeless shelter. Will be doing that again this year…haven’t stopped crocheting either…

Good thoughts always come to me when I crochet,,, I bought a book on crochet once and in the preface was a quote by some dark magician. “Crochet has kept many a woman from the Streets and the River” and I do believe!
