Accessories

Fall is creeping in, slowly but surely. Leaves are starting to change color, there are long strands of artificial spiderweb stretched all over the bushes around my neighborhood, and there’s a noticeable chill in the air every morning. It’s time to start digging out cold weather accessories from the back of my closet… Or maybe I should start knitting some new scarves and hats?

I’ve come across some beautiful independently designed patterns on Ravelry that I’d love to include in my fall and winter wardrobe:

The Norfolk Hat by Amy Christoffers, knit in Ultra Alpaca, features a beautiful stitch pattern combining cables and lace. The generous ribbed edging ensures a cozy fit. I especially love the way the stitch patterning looks at the crown of the hat too… It almost resembles a snowflake.

The Seattle Beret, designed by Jessica Kahele, is knit with Ultra Alpaca as well. The hat is worked in an easy mock cable stitch, and is sized for the perfect amount of slouch. Jessica also designed a matching Seattle Scarf – why not knit the whole set?

The Herringbone Parallelogram Scarf, designed by Christine Guest using Ultra Alpaca Light, instantly adds a hint of simple elegance to any jacket or coat. The attractive chevron stitch pattern is reversible, and the pattern is written for a number of different gauges. If wool makes you itch, try substituting Comfort at the worsted gauge.

Bangarang! 2.0 is a great scarf designed by Rebecca Stromgren and knit in Comfort. I love the incredible amount of texture created by the reversible cable stitching. It’s the perfect accessory to give your cool-weather outfits an added dose of warmth and style.

It’s always great to see what independent designers are doing with Berroco yarns. I’m feeling very inspired to start adding some new accessories to my closet!

I’m scared to see the back of my closet – I wish there were hats and scarves there instead of spiders!
