I did once "kill" the yarn, (man made fibers) in a knitted piece. There was no longer any stretch or give or spring back to the yarn. Made the project look very flat and almost as if it were "old". Luckily it was only one part to a project and I was able to knit another part to replace it. Also, I rarely block my entrelac, I just like the way it looks unblocked better, just personal preference.

I guess one is never too old to learn new things. I have been knitting for many years, and never knew about "your way" of blocking. I have just used my steam iron over a damp towel. I will have to try the "Soak" way. Thanks!!

Oh wow! Thank you for this generous contest. I've been wishing for a set like this for awhile, especially the blocking wires. My bf has been helping my block in the meantime but it is a pain keeping all the edges even. This would help a lot. Thanks for the freshening up tip, I didn't know that one.

I have been knitting lace for a couple of years now. I always block everything, and mentally invented blocking pins before I knew they existed. So I totally deserve some!

In high school (long ago and far away) I wore a lot of wool sweaters and always blocked them into shape on a towel. The wool smells so good!

Thanks for the tutorial, I love to get the newsletter.

My first blocking attempt involved over 200 paper clips and a child gate.
It took some time to set it up, but it was worth it when my silk lace scarf was done.

That was a great tutorial on blocking! I have knitted for a number of years, but have never yet blocked a sweater. In the past, one of the yarn store owners from whom I purchased yarn stated that my knitting was even enough that it didn't require blocking, particularly since I was using non-wool yarn.

However, I now know that she was incorrect! Your example has illustrated how much better several of my pieces would have looked if they had been blocked!

I am now searching for a blocking board prior to finishing the pieces of the last two knitted projects that I have nearly completed, a sweater, and a knitted bag from a Norah Gaughan pattern. I will probably need some blocking pins, as well.......

Thanks for all the tips! I will certainly add this scarf to my list (extremely long) list of knitted projects waiting to be done.

Thanks for the chance to win! I've not had the pleasure of blocking lace yet, but I know of it's benefits for baby sweaters and such.

Well, you have sold me on blocking. Even if I don't win the blocking materials, I will order them. It sounds like I need a professional look
to my sweaters.

Wow! Thank you to the inventor of the blocking rods, someone was thinking. No more stainless steel pins. I usually block my guage swatch to get the "feel" of blocking, better the swatch than my time invested project. I never heard of Soak and it sounds fantastic. I've been using Dreft baby detergent and I'm sure the Soak is superior, can't wait to find it and try it.
